Yard Photography Finds The Past Couple Of Weeks

Hello everyone. Here are a few photos I took the past couple of weeks. As promised I got a few photos of a couple of birds that come to visit the bird feeder outside the living room window. I was only able to get a couple of different birds but hopefully this week I’ll be able to get some more. I’m really hoping to get some great shots of the Green Jay family that lives here. This White-winged Dove spent about 10 minutes at the feeder, I had positioned myself just a few feet inside the window so was able to get some nice close-ups. I got up to take a break and when I returned the dove was gone and a Thrasher has come to eat, it was a bit skidish so I kept my distance as not to scare it, so the photo wasn’t as clear and ended up with a window pane right smack next to the bird, at least it wasn’t in front of it. It flew away soon after.

Being that I already had the camera in hand I decided to head outside to see what I could find, something I hadn’t done for a while, but the weather was nice and I just couldn’t resist. The small lizard was one of the first things I spotted, I love these guys, it wasn’t much afraid of me either.

This Mockingbird and it’s pal on a farther pole kept watch on me as I traveled through their territory.

Farther down the pathway I spotted this tiny butterfly enjoying some small yellow flowers.

As I was looking for other insects on those flowers I turned to the left and spotted a wasp flying around and thought, “oh, if it lands maybe I can get a good shot of it”, then another one came circling in front of me and headed behind me. That’s when I knew things were not as harmless as they seemed, and although they weren’t really acting aggressive I still took some precautions…….those stings hurt. I stood still for a couple of seconds and slowly walked a couple of steps forward and turned around……..sure enough, my suspicions were correct, not more than two feet behind me was this small wasp home, where the two wasps that I had seen, had now rejoined their family. And yeah, I walked a bit closer to get this close-up of them……couldn’t resist.

There still are a few dragonflies around, not many though like there was a few months ago, but you can catch glimpses of them once in a while.

One of the yard cats “Hashbrown” joined me on my walk around the yard, after a while I noticed a tick on his head so I proceeded to pluck it out……and thought “photo”?, hey why not, so I placed the tick on a log, and guess what, Hashbrown just had to get on the log right where I had placed the tick…….cats……no kidding a few seconds after this photo was taken he sat exactly on the tick, some photography helper he was.

Lastly a few days later I took these (not so great) photos of a woodpecker and hummingbird from my bedroom window. The hummingbird is a lazy one, just sits on that branch grooming itself most of the day and just sipping nectar every so often……must’ve learnt that from having been watching me through the window…….sit…eat…sit…eat. tee hee

Well that is all for now, will post my more recent photos another time.

Later….
